I started playing guitar at age 13, and by the age of 16, I was teaching guitar out of my parents basement to adults and children. At that time, I didn’t know Christ and I was struggling…. then BAMM!!! I experienced my salvation day when I was 17 years old. I quit my rock band and started leading worship for my youth group. I continued to teach guitar, piano, drums and voice in my own studio for the next 10 years! I studied music at Wright State University and have a BA in Music Education. While completing my music degree and after teaching thousands of private one-on-one lessons to all ages I began to develop a course of study and began writing my first guitar lesson book. Today you can study with me right from your computer or iPad or purchase many of my books and resources directly from the WTK Store! I play some for my local church and spend most of my time writing and creating new courses for WTK. Follow me @ericroberts43
… and then I married Emily, a talented artist, singer/songwriter. Emily started singing and writing songs when she was 9 years old. She started recording her work and seriously pursuing writing and singing in her teens and has a passion for lyrics and stories. Emily’s songwriting and recorded work has been featured on the radio (www.eurekaparkmusic.com) and her songs have been played around the world by local churches. Currently, she is focused on writing a new musical which I believe will be amazing and she is homeschooling our little boy August…. known around our town as”Augie”.
August Clayson Roberts (Augie) is an awesome little guy who is running around like crazy playing every instrument he can find in the house (and they are everywhere). He is our inspiration to continue to worship and to show him and others that Jesus is really worth living for. He sings and plays instruments he finds around the house and he thinks the living room couch is his stage… He is currently studying the great Christian guitarists like Lincoln Brewster and reviewing live worship concerts on YouTube with his dad. He’s getting started with social media with his very own hashtag…. #augiejams
My Salvation Day:
There was a time in my life when everything seemed hopeless. I dare not forget that I was terribly lost and heading down the completely wrong path. In fact, my first studio recording was titled “Lost” and the first track on the tape was called Past the Point of No Return. But on November 3, 1994, at the age of 17, my best friend led me to accept Jesus as my personal savior. Shortly after that, I quit my rock band and began leading worship for the youth services at the church down the street from my house. I was mentored by a worship team member, and grew as a guitar player and a worship leader. Now, after serving several local churches as the full time worship leader, I am using my talents to teach, train and encourage other worship leaders and Christian musicians. If you are unsure about where you are headed, read the track that I read that changed my life. Meet Jesus Christ Today!
I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord.
