A Journey to Worship

A Journey to Worship By Pastor Charles A Lefort

Worship in the church today has been confused
with a song or a hymn. Worship, if I can steal
from the popular song “Heart of Worship,” is
more than a song. Christians today believe if
they get together shout, sing, clap and dance
before the Lord are worshiping. This is in fact
praise. Praise and worship are not the same. I
wonder how many Christians truly enter into
worship.

To enter into worship there is a preparation, a
journey if you will that we must travel. Do you
recall the chief priest that would enter the Holy
of holies? The Holy of holies contained the very
presence of God represented by the Ark of the
Covenant. The priest wore special garments
which included bells around the hem line. He
would also have a rope tied around his waist. If
the priest entered the Holy of holies and failed
to properly prepare his life he would be struck
down. The rope was to pull him back out.

How does the believer prepare to enter into
worship? The first step is humility. Come
humbly with awe and fear before the Lord.

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will
lift you up. James 4:10 Come with clean hands
and a pure heart. Through His blood and
redemptive power the believer can enter into
His presence. Who may ascend the hill of the
LORD? Who may stand in his holy place? He

who has clean hands and a pure heart, Psalm
24:3-4

Come with thanksgiving and praise. “In
everything give thanks; for this is the will of God
in Christ Jesus for you” 1 Thessalonians 5:18.
“He who offers a sacrifice of thanksgiving
honors Me; And to him who orders his way
aright I shall show the salvation of God.“ Psalm

50:23 Come united one with another. Unless
there is a unity among believers His presence
will not be manifested. That they may be
perfected in unity, that the world may know
that thou didst send me. John 17:23 “Again, I
tell you that if two of you on earth agree about
anything you ask for, it will be done for you by
my Father in heaven. For where two or three
come together in my name, there am I with
them.” Matthew 18:19 For where two or three
come together in My name, THERE I (GOD) AM
WITH THEM!
The very presence of God is manifested in their
presence when the believer approaches His
throne through humility, repentance, with
thanksgiving and praise, united as one with his
brother. This is where worship takes place.
This is where His power is released and His will
is accomplished through miracles, signs and
wonders.
